Girls Dominating for TravelSIM Team Australia at ISA World Juniors 12th June 2013

COOLANGATTA/QLD (12th June, 2013): The girls’ contingent has dominated for TravelSIM Team Australia on Day 3 at the Dakine ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Nicaragua.

The event at the beachbreak of Playa Jiquiliste in Tola has attracted more than 300 of the world’s best Under 18 surfers from more than 30 countries.

In a clean 3-4ft (1.5m) swell, Stephanie Single (Lennox Head, NSW – 15.90) and Kirsten Ogden (Suffolk Park, NSW – 14.67) cruised through their heats of the Under 18 girls to move into Round 3 of the main draw.

In the Under 16 girls, Holly Wawn (Newport, NSW – 16.00) and Isabella Nichols (Coolum Beach, QLD – 13.16) had a one-two finish in their heat and were the two standout surfers in their division to advance to Round 3 of the main draw.

Quinn Bruce (Coolangatta, QLD – 12.17) survived his first heat of elimination in the repechage rounds of the Under 16 boys with a win, but must continue to finish first or second in the next eight repechage rounds to stay in contention.

If a surfer is knocked out of the main draw for finishing third or fourth they still get a chance to qualify for the final through the repechage rounds but must finish first or second in each heat to continue to advance.

After three days, TravelSIM Team Australia, the USA and Hawaii are the leading teams with 11 of their 12 surfers still involved in the main draw and one from each team attempting to advance through repechage.
